There are many watches for women out there and most women typically just look at the
watch based on their design. But, watch connoisseurs would typically look at the
watch’s movement to help them decide which one they should buy.

There are only two popular forms of watch movement that still pervades to this day:
Quartz and Mechanical.

Quartz watches operate using a battery and they are, for the most part, the more
accurate timepiece. Mechanical watches operate using gears and springs and although
they are not as accurate as the aforementioned type of watch, they are more revered
now more than ever.

In fact, people do not mind spending thousands of their hard-earned money just to get
their hands on some luxury timepieces which are often mechanical in nature.
Today, I am going to cite some good reasons why you should consider buying a
mechanical watch than their main counterparts.

They Are Part of History

The first-ever wristwatch that was made is actually a mechanical watch. That means
that this type of watch was created where the technology that we have today still didn’t
exist.

Mechanical watches have two different sub-types: Manual and Automatic. Most of the
mechanical watches that you can find today are Automatic or self-winding watches.
They are powered by your daily movements and all you really need to do is wear the
watch and continue on with your day.

However, watch enthusiasts would typically want the manual version of the watch
simply because of nostalgia.

Manual watches would have to be manually winded down in order for it to function.
Hand-wound timepieces, as they are usually called, hold more history than the
automatic versions that were created a couple of centuries after.

They’ve Got Power

Despite the fact that mechanical watches have to be fully-wound for them to operate,
they actually have a power reserve that allows it to function even without your
intervention.

For instance, most luxury automatic watches have a 48 or 72-hour power reserve that
allows you to not wear that watch and it still functions as intended regardless.

Renowned Watchmaking Companies Prefer Them

One of the main characteristics of a mechanical watch is its hand movement. It is much
smoother and it is actually quite amazing to look at.

Renowned watchmaking companies such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Piaget, and others
actually prefer making mechanical watches than Quartz watches. I guess that is due to
the fact that they are just amazing timepieces.

A Sign of Luxury

Mechanical watches, especially from well-known companies, are a sign of luxury. If you
can afford something like the Piaget Blue or the Montblanc Boheme Day & Night
collection, for example, that will often turn heads and you will be the center of attention,
especially to watch enthusiasts.

Incredibly Sturdy

This is one of the main reasons why I prefer mechanical watches over Quartz watches.
Mechanical watches, when given enough care and maintenance, can actually last a
really long time.

So, whether you want to wear it until you grow really old or you want to hand it down to
your son or daughter, a mechanical watch can certainly last a really long time.
