Starting your own blog is relatively easy to do. All you need to do is to go to a content management system or a website builder and build your website using those tools. In less than an hour, you will have created your own blog that is complete with all of the things that you want.

But of course, that is just part of the equation. If you want to make your blog successful, you need to also optimize it for SEO.

Today, I am going to give you some handy tips on how you can optimize your blog posts for SEO.

Keyword Research

The first thing that you need to do is to do some keyword research. For those of you who do not know, keywords are very important when it comes to improving your blog’s SEO as it will be one of the main criteria in helping your blog be discovered online.

To find the right keywords that you can use on your blog, you have to use tools like Google’s Keyword Planner or other similar programs to help you find the right ones.

Do not forget to include both short and long-tail keywords to improve your success.

Write a Good Title

When people are perusing through online content, what usually compels them to click on something? Well, you’ve guessed it! It is actually the title of the website.

A good blog post title- one that contains some of your chosen keywords- can actually give you pretty good results.

It not only motivates people to click on your link on the SERPs but you will also get ranked better by the search engines as well.

Write a catchy blog post title that makes use of one or two of your chosen keywords. But, make sure that it sounds and looks coherent.

Internal Linking

After writing a considerable number of posts, you will have enough for you to do some internal linking. Internal linking is where you will embed links to some of your old yet relevant content.

It is good practice to do this as it will help increase your ‘time on site’ metric. This tells you how long people visit your website and stay there. If the search engines see that people actually take their time when perusing your blog, then you will get a better page rank.

Add Meta Descriptions to Your Posts

Meta descriptions are those texts that you see on the SERPs that tell you something about the website. A lot of bloggers mistakenly believed that they do not bring any purpose at all, but they are actually quite important.

Aside from letting the people know exactly what your blog post is all about, it also entices people to click on the link, especially if they find that you may have the information that they need.

As much as possible, take advantage of the complete meta description limit (which has now been bumped to 300). Utilize the available space and make them as descriptive as possible.

Make Your Articles Legible

Your blog posts should always be readable so that your audience will actually love reading what you wrote for them. Make sure that your texts conform to mobile devices and also use typography that makes your content easier to read.

Organize Your Content

Using different categories to help organize your content will not only make readers happy but also the search engines as well.
Categorize your content in such a way that it will be much easier for your audience to understand and click.
